Surroundings

Welcome home, is what we said to each other when we first became acquainted with the area around Uzes
(the Uzège) in the department of Gard.
The breathtaking yet ‘nonchalant’ beauty is reminiscent of Tuscany, yet it has its own colours, smells, tastes and light.
Cypresses, swallows, crickets and sunsets, the gently sloping vineyards and olive groves,
with picturesque little villages and the peaceful countryside, which can suddenly show its teeth in a spectacular gorge.

Never a dull moment in an area as this, with all its natural beauty, culture and history,
range of recreational activities (golf, mountaineering, swimming, canoeing etc),
its vast open fields and lively towns, and of course its wines and Provincial cuisine… It is no wonder the locals are never in a hurry.
History has been busy here, the Frenchman smiles and pours himself another glass of wine.

We will show you the way if you want us to. To the chateaus with the best wines; to Uzes (with its markets),
Nimes, Avignon; to the imposing Roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard, which you can also view while swimming;
to the lakes and marshes of the nature reserve at Camargue or the rugged beauty of the Cevennes.
And within an hour, you can reach the Mediterranean sea.
